Rain Storage

Rain storage is a great way of conserving water. Australia is the driest continent on earth and it has greatly benefitted by implementing rainwater harvesting systems for all applications that actually do not require potable drinking water. Rain storage systems have become quite popular in last few years. People have installed rain storage systems in industrial, commercial and residential complexes.

Every day we have to do so many tasks that require water, but not all tasks require potable drinking water. For instance, water used for flushing toilets need not be from the fresh water supply. Similarly, water used for watering plants in lawns and gardens need not be from the mains supply. On larger scale, rain storage for the purpose of irrigation and filling swimming pools has proved to be quite effective in conserving water.

Due to acute shortage of water during the dry spell, people have to face strict water restriction. It surely is quite a frustrating experience. However, with the help of rain storage system one can eliminate the dependency on the mains supply to quite an extent. You can use rainwater for flushing toilets, watering gardens and plants, washing clothes etc. If you do so, you would see a drastic decline in your monthly water bills.

In regions where pollution level is quite low, people are using rainwater for drinking purpose as well (this would require purification and disinfection of rainwater), which means that the dependency on mains water supply is eliminated completely. Rain storage systems help in reducing the load of the mains supply. Not only rain storage has helped in conserving water, but also played a major role in recharging ground water levels. It is for this reason that the government is promoting rainwater harvesting systems. Since a good quality rainwater tank is quite expensive and maybe not affordable for many, the government has come up with interesting rebate schemes on purchase of rainwater tanks.

You can save about 70% of the mains water supply by installing a rainwater storage system in your house. You would also be able to save a lot of money as the monthly water bill amount will reduce significantly. Do not compromise with the quality of rainwater storage tank or any other component or accessories used in the rainwater harvesting system. Always hire a licensed plumber for installing the rainwater system.
